First aid built for the classroom, not just the workplace
HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting is relevant to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting. You'll learn the knowledge and skills required to respond to first aid emergencies, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.
All training and assessment is completed during the face-to-face session — no online pre-learning required. The course is trained in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, and may contribute towards approved First Aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training requirements defined by the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA).

The Child Care First Aid course presents the following key skills and knowledge:
- Recognise and assess an emergency situation
- Ensure safety for self, bystanders and casualty
- Assess the casualty and recognise the need for first aid response
- Seek assistance from emergency services
- Perform CPR in accordance with ARC guidelines
- Provide first aid per established first aid principles
- Ensure the casualty feels safe, secure and supported
- Obtain consent from the casualty where possible
- Use available resources to keep the casualty comfortable
- Operate first aid equipment per manufacturer instructions
- Monitor the casualty's condition and respond appropriately
- Accurately convey incident details to emergency services
- Report incident details per workplace/site procedures
- Complete workplace/site documentation, incl. incident reports
- Report incidents involving infants/children to parents or caregivers
- Follow procedures to report serious incidents to the regulatory authority
- Maintain privacy and confidentiality of records and information
- Recognise possible psychological impacts on rescuers
- Contribute to a review of the first aid response

HLTAID012 — The Required Qualification for Childcare Educators
HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting is the ACECQA-approved qualification required for educators in childcare centres, kindergartens, preschools, family day care and outside school hours care (OSHC) across NSW and Australia. It goes beyond HLTAID011 by adding infant and child-specific CPR, paediatric anaphylaxis management (including EpiPen use), asthma management in children, and education-setting scenarios.

ACECQA Requirements Explained
Under the Education and Care Services National Law and National Regulations, approved childcare services must ensure at least one educator holds a current approved first aid qualification at all times during operating hours. HLTAID012 satisfies the first aid, anaphylaxis and asthma management requirements in a single course — the three ACECQA training requirements met in one session.
Upgrading from HLTAID011? You cannot add HLTAID012 on top — you must complete the full course. Our course covers all content from scratch, so no prior first aid experience is required.
